Building Confidence. Developing Skills. Inspiring the Next Generation.

At Montel Smith Basketball Camps, we believe basketball is more than a game—it’s a vehicle to build confidence, character, discipline, teamwork, and leadership.

Our mission is to create a positive, organized, and encouraging environment where every camper grows as both a player and a person. Whether your child is picking up a basketball for the first time or looking to sharpen their skills, our goal is for every camper to leave believing in themselves a little more than when they arrived.

We are committed to creating an experience that families look forward to every summer—one where campers are challenged, encouraged, celebrated, and inspired to become the very best version of themselves both on and off the court.

Meet Coach Montel Smith

Basketball has been part of my life since I was five years old.

My uncle first introduced me to the game by taking me with him to the local gym in West Greenville. I fell in love with basketball immediately. I wasn’t the biggest or the most talented player—I simply loved the game enough to keep showing up.

Every day after school, I’d finish my homework and head straight to the gym. Many nights I stayed until the staff had to tell me it was time to go home. Through years of hard work, I developed not only my skills, but also confidence, discipline, and perseverance.

That journey led me to earn All-Conference and MVP honors in high school, become the all-time assists leader at Brunswick Community College, and continue my career at UNC Greensboro as a Division I student-athlete.

Today, my greatest passion isn’t what basketball did for me—it’s what basketball can do for young people. As the head assistant coach for the South Central High School men's varsity basketball team, that's the same philosophy I bring to every conversation with a player, every practice, and every game. It is also the foundation of Montel Smith Camps.

As a public school teacher, coach, husband, and father, I believe every child deserves a coach who believes in them. My goal is to help campers develop sound basketball fundamentals while learning life lessons that extend far beyond the court.

Whether they pursue basketball or another path in life, I hope every camper leaves with greater confidence, stronger character, and a deeper belief in what they are capable of achieving.

I don’t just teach the game. I want to help build the person who plays it.
